On this post I present you a list of symptoms related to episodes of spontaneous Kundalini awakening that have not been recognised as such and is encountering resistance. When the symptoms become more prominent you may be dealing with Kundalini Syndrome or even a spiritual emergence. The article is not exhousted but it offers some guidance. Stay tuned in for more, I will update.
The awakening of the Kundalini energy can happen to anyone, it is not necessary to meditate or to be engaging in spiritual activities for it to happen. However, with the access to Yoga and Meditation to the main stream in the western, more and more people are having spontaneous Kundalini awakening symptoms, some of which aren’t just beautiful or blissful.
Most people get use to the symptoms and try to lessen them with western medicine but because there is so much misinformation or no information at all about this subject, many may never think they are going through a spontaneous Kundalini Awakening or Kundalini energy movement, missing somehow the potential of the energy for growth.
Note this is not the same as the Kundalini Activation, which is the practice on surrender I offer, where your kundalini energy may get activated to start a smoother, conscious process of the kundalini awakening.
In the search for help during kundalini awakening process, people often find either no information at all or a lot of misinformation. They also find themselves in situations where they are told many confusing diagnosis about their situation. Unfortunately this will only aggravate the symptoms.
I have worked with people who were told they had attracted ‘entities’ which stayed hanging on them, or they were possessed by demons or even things related to the dark energies and the devil. In my experience of what I have seen, those well meant “diagnoses” can have a very detrimental effect on people.
Other people experiencing more extremely uncomfortable symptoms may go to the doctor and then get a psychiatric diagnose like bipolar distortion, psychosis and so on. Notice, I don’t mean the symptoms aren’t suggesting a psychotic, depressive or manic episode, what I mean is that, because most of the western medicine doctors don’t have much information about spiritual phenomena, they tent to stay within the realms of the DSM-5 catalogue of symptoms to categorise and classify diseases. (DSM-5-TR is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals, in Europe we use the ICD -10 or its latest version 11). There are several issues that may occurred when people get a diagnosis, in particular psychological ones. The most common are: the social stigma of psychological disorders and the tendency of some people to identify themselves with the diagnosis, but this would need another blog post to clarify.
So, if you are experiencing symptoms listed or not listed here and you suspect you may be experiencing a Kundalini Awakening, the best advice I can give you is to be very selective with the people you talk to or where you look for advice and help. Ask therapists to tell you about their credentials and experience with this subject, and please listen to your gut feeling! If you feel anything, and that may be a minimal sense of discomfort, then stay away, stop and leave the conversation, or therapy. Precisely the widening of the intuition is a very important and significant effect of a Kundalini awakening.
So please do not doubt your gut feeling!
A person trained in psychotherapy and who is aware of spiritual processes can tell you in detail the differences between mental disorders and a spiritual crisis. And if you find someone who also knows about the Kundalini awakening process then you will receive a lot of helpful information that will definitely take you further. The three conditions are similar presenting similar symptoms but they are fundamentally different.
Kundalini energy movements will bring you both categories of symptoms, comfortable and those not so comfortable. On this post, I will list only some of the uncomfortable symptoms, since they are also present during a spiritual emergency and it it the subject of today's post. Please note this list in not exhaustive and I will be publishing another more complete one. However this one may give you some guidance. The list do not replace a medical diagnostic process.
How to work with this list to make a self-assessment
I recommend you to go through the symptoms and:
1. give yourself a note from 0 to 5 “cero” equals "nothing at all”, 5 “a lot, several times a week”
2. make notes: when have you notice the symptoms or similar symptoms for the first time and what was the context?
3. also write down if the symptoms lessen or worsen in certain circumstances or within which context
4. You may need to come back later and do it again, usually the self-assessment takes more than one time reading here…
